Personalities Nieulandt II, Willem (Guiliam) van

Painter, engraver, poet, playwright of the Golden Age of Holland. From a family of artists of Flemish origin from Antwerp. Cousin of Willem van Nieulandt I (1560–1626). From 1589 he lived with his family in Amsterdam. He studied with Roelant Savery; in 1602–1605 he lived and worked in Rome: student of Paul Bril, in his workshop he painted landscapes with the ruins of monuments, arches and temples, many of which he engraved himself. In 1605 he returned to Antwerp. From 1629 he lived in Amsterdam. He is also known as a poet and playwright.
