Personalities Thomassen, Simon Philippe

The courtier engraver of Louis XIV, the nephew of the engraver Philippe Thomassen (1562-1622). He studied at Etienne Picard in Paris, later - at the French Academy in Rome. When he returned to Paris, he entered the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. He performed engravings on religious and mythological plots from the originals of Nicolas Poussin, Eustache Lesier, Philippe de Champaigne and others. His son, Henri Simon Thomassen (1687-1741), was also an engraver.
