Personalities Solferini, Giuseppe

Artist, draftsman. Studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Venice in 1825–1829, where he received awards every year. In 1829 Trieste participated in the first exhibition of the Minerva Society with the painting "The Despair of Cain" (now in the Civic Museum of History and Arts in Trieste). At the exhibition of the Minerva Society in 1831, he presented several copies of Caravaggio and Veronese. In 1835– 1837, he lived in Odesa; he was a teacher of drawing at the Institute for Noble Maidens. He made several lithograph portraits for Odesa lithograph workshops. In October 1837, he left Odesa. His famous works: two portraits of Gattorno couple in oil (not preserved, there are photocopies in the Civic Museum of History and Arts in Trieste), portrait of the composer and conductor Antonio d’Antoni (lithography, at the same place), portraits of the generals S. O. Tuchkov and S. O. Samoylov (both are in the Hermitage, St. Petersburg).
