Personalities Balechou, Jean-Joseph

Engraver. He studied in Avignon, first with the artist Philippe Sauvan, a native of Arles, then (1731-1734) with the engraver of seals and bookplates Jean Michel. He continued his education in Paris, in the workshop of the engraver François-Bernard Lépicié. In 1749 he was admitted to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture for an engraved portrait of the King of Poland and Elector of Saxony August III, originally by H. Rigaud. From 1753 he lived and worked in Avignon, where he made several engravings on the originals of J. Verne. The catalog of his works, compiled by Jules Belleudy, has 95 engravings.
