Personalities Ridinger, Johann Elias

German artist, engraver, draftsman and publisher. One of the most famous animal painters of the XVIII century. He worked in the technique of chisel engraving and etching. At first, he studied at Ulm with Christopher Resch, then with Johann Falch and Georg Philipp Rugendas in Augsburg. He spent three years in Regensburg with Baron Wolf von Metternich, attended a riding school and took part in hunts, which helped him to become an animal painter. In 1723, he opened an art studio in Augsburg and his own publishing house for the production and sale of prints engraved from his own drawings. Since 1759, he was the director of the Augsburg Academy of Arts. He created over 1600 prints.
