Personalities Larmessin, Nicholas II (in some sources – Nicholas I)

Engraver and publisher of prints. Elder son of the bookseller Nicolas Larmessin (sometimes called Nicholas I), brother of Nicholas III Larmessin (1645-1725). In 1647, he became a student of the engraver Jean Mathieu. In 1654, he married the daughter of the publisher of engravings Pierre Bertrand, owner of the publishing house "Pomme d'Or" on the Saint-Jacques Street. Together with him, he published a large series of engraved portraits of Kings of France and other royalty. After the death of P. Bertrand in 1678, his widow inherited the firm, from whom the publishing house passed to Nicolas II Larmessin.
