1663, Ghent – 1743 (1748?), Ghent
Flemish painter and engraver. He studied in his hometown at Frans van Cuyck de Myerhop, and then at Jan van Cleve. In 1685 he went to Rome, where he became a student of Carlo Maratti. He painted pictures on biblical subjects. On the advice of his teacher he began to practice engraving and achieved great success in this area. His engravings are mostly based on the original of his teacher, as well as A. Carracci, P. da Cortona, Domenichino, A. Mantegna and others. In 1723 he returned to his hometown, where he received an order to paint local churches and monasteries. His best work, according to researchers, is the altar of the Ghent cartesian temple.
