Personalities Thomassen, Simon Philippe

Engraver, publisher. From a great dynasty of engravers and publishers. Son of Simon Thomassin I (ca. 1632–?) and great-nephew (?) of Philippe Thomassin (1562–1622). He studied in Paris with Etienne Picart, in 1676-1680 – at the French Academy in Rome. After returning to Paris, he was elected to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. He engraved portraits, and sometimes paintings based on religious subjects. His son, Henri Simon, was also an engraver.
