Engraver. The founder of the Leipzig family of copper engravers. In 1685, he came to Leipzig, studied engraving under Erasmus Andresohn (1651-1731). In 1690-1691, he attended lectures at the University of Leipzig. In 1707, the Elector of Saxony appointed him court engraver. He was the father of the engravers Johann Martin and Johann Benedikt.
