Personalities Audran, Jean
1667, Lyon – 1756, Paris
Engraver and etcher from the great dynasty of Audran engravers. Son of Germain Audran (1631-1710), younger brother of Benoît Audran (1661-1721). At first he studied with his father, then in Paris, in the workshop of his uncle, Gérard Audran. By the age of twenty, he had reached a high level of engraving skills. The uncle and nephew together made a large number of engravings, so it is sometimes difficult to establish the authorship of one or the other. In 1706, he received the title of king's engraver, a pension and an apartment at the Tapestry Manufactory. Since 1756 – a member of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture (for the engraved portraits of Antoine Coysevox and Noël Coypel).
