“Fonar” (“The Lantern”) was a weekly industrial and literary magazine founded in Odesa in 1908, edited and published by Ephraim Leibovych Kosovsky. The publication was limited to the release of only the first issue, which predominantly featured artistic material such as poems, novels, and short stories reflecting the literary trends of the early 20th century. Along with literary publications, it included political and economic news, as well as an industrial index reflecting the current state of entrepreneurial and manufacturing life. The first and only issue of the magazine is of interest as a little-known example of Odesa periodicals of the early 20th century, combining literary publications with the socio-political and economic context of the time.
