For practical use on the road
Москвич Г. Иллюстрированный практический путеводитель по Одессе… – Изд. 3-е. – Владикавказ: паровая тип. Казбек, 1907. – [4], XVI, 296, [50], 136, [2], [9] c., 2 пл. : ил., табл.
Grygory Georgievych (Grygoriyevych) Moskvych (1852?–1942?) lived in Odesa for a long time, was passionate about local history, travelled a lot, and was one of the first in the Russian Empire to organise tourist trips by steamboat, train, car, horseback, and on foot. The interests of the reader were no less important to him: offering various options for recreation, taking into account the time and financial capabilities of the traveller, the author turned his publication into a real guide and advisor. The small format of the book allowed it to be carried around at all times. In total, he published 14 guidebooks, which together had 223 editions, with a total circulation of 825,000 copies. The format and quality of the binding corresponded to the purpose: cardboard binding for libraries, soft cover for practical use on the road.
