Plans of the colonies
Клаус А. А. Наши колонии : опыты и материалы по истории и статистике иностранной колонизации в России. Вып. 1 / Александр Августович Клаус. – Санкт-Петербург : в тип. В. В. Нусвальта…, 1869. – ХІІ, 455, [1], 101, [1] с., 2 л. к.
The purpose of the publication was to share the colonists' rich experience in farming and the introduction of new methods of land cultivation, cattle breeding, and public administration. It was planned that the book would be published in two volumes, but only the first was published. It was based on essays published by Alexender Klaus in 1868–1869 in the journal "Vestnik Evropy". The author drew on a wide range of archival sources and presented a multifaceted picture of the colonists' lives in historical perspective. The book provides a general overview of foreign colonization, describes the colonies of Radichev and Sarepta, and includes materials on the Mennonites and Transdanubian settlers, outlines the order of inheritance and insurance, and describes the volost banks, clergy, and schools of the colonists. The appendix contains a poem by colonial officer Bernhard Ludwig von Platen (1733–1774), statistical data, and plans of the colonies.
