The Odesa Emergency Commission

Отчет Одесской губернской чрезвычайной комиссии к IV Губернскому съезду советов / изд. Одесской Губчека. – Одесса, 1921. – 64, [2], VIII с. : табл.

The Odesa Cheka (OGChK) — the provincial emergency commission for combating counterrevolution, speculation, sabotage, and crimes committed in office (also known as the Odesa Emergency Commission) existed until August 1919, and then from February 1920 to February 1922; when it was abolished in connection with the transfer of powers to the GPU (Main Political Administration). Throughout 1920, the Bolshevik authorities attempted to rapidly implement communist reforms in Ukraine, which had been ongoing in Soviet Russia since 1918. These reforms provoked active and passive resistance from all segments of the population, including the working class and, in particular, the peasantry. In response, the punitive organs of the communist authorities unleashed a brutal political terror. This edition presents the OGChK report on the commission's activities as of 1921.
