Songs of Love

Chernyavsky, M. F. Songs of Love / M. Chernyavsky. – Kharkiv : printing house of Zilberberg, 1895. – 100, III p.

“Songs of Love” is the first collection of poems by Mykola Chernyavsky (1868–1938), a Ukrainian poet, teacher, and local government official. The book contains poems written between 1888 and 1895, united by the themes of love, inner experiences, and the emotional drama of the lyrical hero.

The poems are distinguished by their sincerity, melodiousness, and soft lyrical tone, combining traditional motifs of Ukrainian love poetry with the individual intonations of the young author.

At the heart of the collection is the image of a hero in love, who experiences a whole range of emotions: from inspiration and admiration to sadness, loneliness, and disappointment. The poems are distinguished by their vivid imagery, psychological subtlety, and natural poetic expression.

“Love Songs” is an important part of the literary heritage of the late 19th century and marks the beginning of Mykola Chernyavsky's creative career, outlining the main features of his early poetic style.
