Ukrainian life in Odesa at the beginning of the 20th century did not end with the closure of the Ukrainian society “Prosvita” in 1909. In early 1910, the city’s Ukrainian intelligentsia founded the “Odeskii Ukrainskii Club”, and in 1911, through the efforts of members of Prosvita’s drama section, the music and drama association “Ukrainska Khata” was established. The society was founded by actress O. Brodnitska (Nimchenko), V. Formenko, and M. Piletska-Urbanovych. By 1912, it already had 209 members. Engaged in Ukrainian cultural and educational activities within the society were people of diverse ages, nationalities, genders, professions, and political beliefs. Among them were teacher A. Verzhbytsky, historian P. Klepatsky, agronomist O. Haaz, physicians I. Lutsenko and I. Lypa, Professor K. Sapezhko, writers A. Nikovsky and M. Komarov, and musician Yu. Ostashko.
