The book includes the memoirs of F. Ivanov, who recalled descending into the underground tunnels near Dyukivskyi Park and emerging on Sofiivska Street. He described Odesa’s underground world at the end of the 19th century—places where criminals of the time would hide. The city’s criminal element had long established their “maliny” (hideouts) in the catacombs. In particular, the author recounts seeing in the catacombs the bandit refuge of Sashko Kosyi.
