“Tygodnik Odeski” (“Odesa Weekly”) was an illustrated weekly periodical published in Polish in Odesa in 1915-1917. The editor was Adam Kowalczewski-Siedlecki. In the introductory article to the first issue, the editorial board proclaimed its task to become ‘an instrument for the establishment of national ideas and a hope for a bright future.’
The newspaper covered current events in the city, published materials on literature, art, history, as well as news from Poland and the life of the Polish community in Odesa and southern Ukraine. The publication contained journalistic articles, essays, chronicles of events, reviews of cultural initiatives, theatre performances and public events.
Among the regular sections are Z chwili (a review of the latest events in the lives of Poles in different cities), Kronika (a chronicle of Odesa life), reports from non-governmental organizations, announcements, etc.
“The Odesa Weekly” is a valuable source for researching the history of the Polish diaspora in Odesa, its political activity and cultural life during World War I.
