The publication “Guillaume Levasseur de Beauplan and his historical and geographical works on Southern Russia”, compiled by Vasyl Hryhorovych Laskoronskyi (1860-1928), a Ukrainian historian, archaeologist, ethnographer, numismatist, and cartographer, is a translation of the work of Guillaume Levasseur de Beauplan (ca. 1600-1673), a famous French military engineer-fortification, cartographer, and architect, based on the second French edition of 1660: "Description of Ukraine" and "Maps of Ukraine". The first part contains a description of the territory of Ukraine from the borders of Moscovia to the borders of Transylvania, compiled by de Beauplan on the basis of his research and observations. The second is a selection of maps drawn by de Boplan. These are maps of various regions and provinces of Ukraine, including Pokuttia, Podillia, Bratslav, and Kyiv voivodeships, as well as a map of the Dnipro River from Kyiv to the Black Sea and a list of settlements indicated on the maps.
The book is a valuable source for researchers of Ukrainian history, geography, and culture.
