Storozhenko O. P. Marko the Damned: a poem written in Malorussian language about the legends and tales of the Zaporozhia antiquity. (With a portrait of the author). 1878. 97 p. Ukr. lang. Paper.

The manuscript of the poem "Marko the Damned" by Oleksa Storozhenko (1806-1874), a Ukrainian writer, ethnographer, and playwright, is an important work of Ukrainian literature. Based on folklore sources, the poem tells the story of the adventures and exploits of the protagonist Marko the Damned. The work incorporates legends and tales originating from the history of the Zaporozhian Cossacks, which became the basis of the cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people. The manuscript is accompanied by a preface from Vasyl Ivanovych Bilyi (1817-1890), an Odesa publisher and bookseller of the 1870s, which reveals key moments of the poem's creation and its importance for Ukrainian literature. The poem was first published in 1879 in the Odesa printing house of L. Nitche. The manuscript copy in Odesa National Scientific Library, dated 1878, is from the archives of M. F. Komarov (1844-1913), a renowned Ukrainian educator, bibliographer, lexicographer, critic, folklorist, and public figure.
