Popov P. Materials to the Dictionary of Ukrainian Engravers / Pavlo Popov ; artistic editor Oleksandr Hor ; Ukrainian Scientific Institute of Book Studies. - Kyiv : Kyiv-Druk, 1926. 138, [3] p. : illus.
Pavlo Popov (1890-1971) was a Ukrainian literary critic, art historian, folklorist, critic, bibliographer, Doctor of Philology, author of many books and articles. "Materials for a Dictionary of Ukrainian Engravers was completed in 1924 and, according to the author, has some relation to the 350th anniversary of Ukrainian books (1574-1924), but was published two years later.
The book is dedicated to the memory of art historian, collector, author of fundamental reference works on the history of engraving Dmitry Rovinsky (1824-1895), the most famous of which is The Detailed Dictionary of Russian Engravers of the 16th and 19th centuries (2nd edition. Vols. 1-2. St. Petersburg, 1895), the result of the researcher's long-lasting activity. In the preface, P. Popov noted that "the task of this work is to provide feasible additions to the second (posthumous) edition of Rovinsky's main work... We present here additions to Rovynskyi's dictionary of engravers within the framework of materials that are Ukrainian or related to Ukraine... not only engravers of Ukrainian origin, but also those who, while not being Ukrainian, worked in Ukraine or for Ukraine."
