Karmelyuk by Mark Vovchka is a vivid example of a heroic story-tale in which the author romanticizes and glorifies the Ukrainian national hero, the leader of the insurgent movement in Podilla in 1813–1835. Ustym Karmelyuk is handsome and courageous, honest and selfless, he leaves a quiet family life for the sake of fighting for the truth.
This edition is from the series "Enlightenment Leaves" of the Lviv "Prosvita", which published 59 numbers of small, small-format collections consisting of two or more works.
