"From above the clouds and from the valleys" is a literary and artistic almanac, the publication of which was organized by the Ukrainian writer, translator, theater director, actor, theater scholar, public and political activist Mykola Voronyi. The publication of the almanac in 1903 became an important stage in strengthening the position of the Ukrainian language in Odessa and throughout Ukraine. In addition, "From above the clouds and valleys" became the beginning of the formation of the modernist trend in Ukrainian literature. The almanac represents the poets and novelists of Galicia, Bukovyna, and Naddnipr region of the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, who belonged to various currents and trends. Various views on art, revealed in these and other works, emphasized his leading idea: writing should be deeply national and artistically perfect. Poetry in the almanac is represented by the lyrics of Lesya Ukrainka ("Rhythms"), I. Franko (from the cycle "Withered Leaves"), poems by M. Voronoi, V. Samiilenko, P. Grabovsky, O. Makovey, O. Romanova, M. Chernyavskyi, A. Krymskyi, M. Starytskyi, B. Grinchenko and others. Among the prose works, short stories by M. Kotsyubynskyi ("On a stone"), H. Khotkevich ("Life analogies"), poetry in prose by Olga Kobylyanska ("My Lilies"), A. Krushelnytskyi ("Before the masonry"), E. Mandychevskyi stand out. ("Two lives"). In the almanac, M. Voronyi sought to realize the idea of a collective collection of works by artists who focus their attention on aesthetic and philosophical searches, avoiding primitive imitation of nature and social engagement absolutized by positivists and populists.
