The book is based on the collection of ancient monuments of Greece and Rome of the British Museum, which was kept by the author. This is a detailed description of the collection of Greek bronze statuettes, from the archaic to the end of the classical period. The last section is devoted to Gallic bronze sculpture. The publication is illustrated with numerous photographs of monuments from the collection of the British Museum.

The book was donated to the library by its longtime trustee, Count Mikhail Tolstoy. The copy is protected by a solid leather frame, all pages and illustrations are available, without defects.
