“Culture of historical memory in Ukraine: scientific, cultural and educational aspects”

Odesa National Scientific Library in cooperation with the State Archival Service of Ukraine, Odesa Branch of the National Union of Ethnographers of Ukraine, and the Faculty of History and Philosophy of Odesa National I.I. Mechnykov University will hold a conference.“The All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference with international participation, “CULTURE OF HISTORICAL MEMORY IN UKRAINE: SCIENTIFIC, CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL ASPECTS” will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine on 23–24 August 2023.

The conference is a part of cross-sectoral project “Ukraine: history, culture, identity,” launched in 2021 on Ukraine’s Independence Day. Its founders, Odesa National Scientific Library supported by cultural, educational, scientific, and public institutions, foresee the strengthening of the cultural institutions role in preservation, study, research, and presentation of the Ukrainian history, culture, traditions and achievements in differentfields as the main task. As well asthe improvement of intercultural communication process,enhancement of partnership ties and widening of cooperation network, which will promote the development of cultural and educationalspace of Ukraine. Aiming to promote knowledge of the rich historical and cultural heritage of Ukraine and its contribution to world culture as well as strengthening civic consciousness and ethnic identity.

The purpose of the conference is to bring together scholars, researchers, teachers and other professionals working with the cultural area of historical memory and to highlight current theoretical approaches, new research, methods and practices in the field of cultural memory in Ukraine. There is to mention the promotion of the exchange of scientific knowledge and presentation of research results, stimulation of further scientific, cultural, educational, and educational activities in the field of restoration, and preservation of the national memory of the Ukrainian people.

The subjects under discussion are following:

• Preservation of historical sites, monuments, archival materials, traditions and heritage in the context of military conflicts: international experience and national practice of overcoming challenges and threats;
• Formation of the national cultural space in Ukraine during the war and post-war reconstruction;
• Historical memory and cultural space: theoretical and methodological dimension;
• Institutions of culture, science, and education as representatives of historical memory;
• Participation of cultural and creative industries in the implementation of memory policy: experience, practices, innovations;
• The current state and prospects of forming a culture of historical memory in the Ukrainian education system;
• Persons, events, places: local history and historical and biographical research;
• Current practices in the preservation, research and promotion of historical and cultural heritage: experience, new forms and approaches;
• Intangible cultural heritage: protection, study, promotion.

Scientists, educators, leading experts from libraries, archives, museums of Ukraine and abroad, local historians, ethnographers, representatives of creative industries, NGOs, state and local authorities are invited to participate in the conference.

The event will be held in mixed format (online/offline).
Working languages: Ukrainian, English.
Participation is by prior registration.
Applications are accepted until 15 August 2023.

All participants will receive an electronic certificate.

Abstracts Requirements:

• Manuscripts in Ukrainian and English are accepted for publication;
• Text should be typed in MS Word;
• For English language abstracts there has to be a summary in Ukrainian at the top of the text (100-150 words);
• Abstract Volume is 2-4 A4 pages;
• Font: Times New Roman;
• Size: 14;
• Line Spacing: 1.5;
• Passage Spacing: 1.25 cm;
• Page Margins: top, bottom, left and right, 20 mm;
• Alignment: by width;
• Do not numerate pages;
• Pictures, tables and graphs should be presented immediately after the text, where these objects were mentioned for the first time; or on the second page;
• References to the sources used in the text are indicated in square brackets: first, the number of the cited source in the list of references, then the page, for example: [1, p. 25]. The list of references should be drawn up in accordance with DSTU (National Standard of Ukraine) 8302:2015 and given at the end of the text in alphabetical order in the original language;
• There should be indicated the UDC Index at the beginning of the Abstract page (Left Alignment, Bold); then goes the full name of the conference participant, academic degree and position, place of work (full title); city, country; title of the report (Capital Letters, Bold, Center Alignment).
