The First Natalka Poltavka.
Antonovych, D. V. The First Natalka Poltavka. Prague; Berlin: Nova Ukraina. Printed by K. G. Redera, 1923. 15 p.: portrait.
This work by renowned theater scholar Dmytro Volodymyrovych Antonovych (1877–1945) is devoted to researching the emergence of the first Ukrainian classical play, Natalka Poltavka, by Ukrainian writer and public figure Ivan Petrovych Kotlyarevsky (1769–1838), its stage features, and its significance in the formation of national drama. The author pays special attention to actress Kateryna Naletova (1787–1869), the first performer of the leading role, tracing her life and creative path, acting skills, and popularity, as well as presenting excerpts from her diary. The publication, supplemented with a portrait of the actress by the artist Georg Kordyk (1820–1884), is a valuable historical and art-historical material created in Ukrainian emigration in the 1920s.
