Virgil's Eneida

Kotliarevsky I.P. Virgil's Eneida / Ivan Petrovych Kotliarevsky ; illus. M. H. Derehus - [Kharkiv]: State Literary Publishing House, 1937. 151, [4] p., [19] p. : illus.

«Рoem «Virgil's Еneidа» is an outstanding work of Ukrainian literature created by Ivan Petrovych Kotliarevsky (1769-1838), writer, poet, dramatist, cultural and public figure. Based on the plot of Virgil's ancient «Aeneid», Kotliarevsky conveyed it in a lively folk language full of humour and satire, masterfully depicting history of Ukrainian people, their way of life, character, vivid national colour and diversity of life in all society’s segments in XVIII century. Mykhailo Derehus (1904-1997), Ukrainian graphic artist, painter and teacher, created the illustrations for the book. In total, this edition contains 32 his works: the title page, the backgrounds and endpapers to all parts of poem, and 19 full-page drawings.
