This essay of Hryhorii Petrovych Danylevsky (1829-1890), a Ukrainian Russian-speaking writer, publicist, historian and ethnographer, was published in a separate edition in 1859, and in the same year in the newspaper “Odessa Vestnik” under the name «Outlaw Harkusha ( from the legends about Kharkiv and Chernihiv Gubernia)».
The essay is about a "noble outlaw", the personification of which in Ukrainian and Russian literature of the 19th century was Semen Ivanovych Garkusha (1739 - after 1784), a cossack of Zaporizhia, haidamak and a trader, a chieftain of a rebel division that acted on the left-bank Ukraine, the right-bank Ukraine and Slobozhanshchyna in the second half of the 18th century.
