The journal “Notes of the Imperial Society of Agriculture of Southern Russia” was the official publication of the Society of Agriculture of Southern Russia (since 1922 – the Society of Agriculture of Southern Ukraine). From 1832, it was published monthly in two languages – Russian and French – as an agronomic supplement entitled “Notes Published by the Society of Agriculture of Southern Russia” to the newspaper “Odesskiy Vestnik”. Starting in 1840, the publication acquired the status of an independent magazine and was printed for some time in Russian and French under the titles “Notes of the Society of Agriculture of Southern Russia” and “Memoires de la Société d'économie rurale de la Russie Méridionale”.
Its pages published laws and government regulations in the field of agriculture, protocols of meetings and reports of the society, materials of commissions, as well as reviews of the activities of domestic and foreign agricultural societies, research stations, congresses of rural landowners and zemstvos. Considerable attention was paid to bibliographic reviews of new publications. A separate section was devoted to questions and answers, alongside which original works on agriculture and forestry issues were published. The publication systematically informed readers about new scientific research and discoveries in the agricultural sphere both in Russia and abroad. The journal reflected both the theoretical and practical activities of the Society, publishing specialised materials on gardening, winegrowing, sheep farming, reservoir construction, grass sowing and other relevant areas of agricultural science and practice.
