[The French in Odesa / [V. Kontorovich]. - [Petrograd : Byloe, 1922]. 27, [1] p.
The author presents the history of the French intervention in Odesa in 1918-1919, in particular, analyses in detail the activities of the French consul Emile Henno, describes the life of the city during the occupation, the national composition and characteristics of the Entente troops, and describes the events of the interventionists' withdrawal.
The French intervention, carried out in accordance with the decisions of the Entente leadership, was limited. It influenced the political situation, but did not become a decisive factor in the events. French military representatives tried to find a balance in the complex conglomerate of local political groups, avoiding excessive strengthening of any of them. Nevertheless, they openly demonstrated anti-Bolshevik bias and support for the idea of preserving a ‘united and indivisible Russia’. In March 1919, under pressure from Red Army units, which were based on rebel detachments of the former ataman of the UPR Army, Hryhoriev, French troops left Kherson and Mykolaiv, and in early April - Odesa.
