In his publication, Volodymyr Yakovlevych Stepankivsky (1885-1957), a journalist, public and political figure, analyses a wide range of literature and articles in periodicals about the Ukrainian past in the Western European information space of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The author offers an in-depth look at the ideas about Ukraine in the West that were reflected and disseminated abroad, in particular in the English literature and press of the period, helping to better understand the impact of historical events and cultural aspects on the formation of the perception and popularity of Ukraine abroad.

This research is an important source of information to stimulate further study and development of the national historical narrative, as well as to shape the modern national identity through an understanding of its own history.
